My nipple nightmare

Question

Some small brown spots have appeared around my nipples, and I'm worried. Some are turning pink, and even look like burns. I haven't changed my washing powder, so is this something I should show to a doctor?

Answer

The skin on your breasts, just like the skin anywhere else on your body, can be subject to a variety of skin problems. The sun, acne, hormonal changes, an allergic reaction, or a number of other things can cause spots or marks to appear.

In most cases there is nothing to worry about. However, it is important that spots or marks on the breast that last for more than a few weeks are checked out by a doctor, and a proper diagnosis made.

It is not possible to make a diagnosis over the internet so you may wish to visit your local doctor (GP). They will be able to check over your condition and advise you on the best course of action. It may be nothing to worry about but there is always the possibility of underlying problems. Either way, the sooner you get it checked out, the sooner you can put your mind at rest.
