L!ttleOne
L!ttleOne moderates the Home, Law & Money forum on the discussion boards. Find out what else she gets up to in the world of Law and why she loves TheSite.org.
What's been your most memorable experience as a moderator so far?
I have been moderating just under a year now, and I'm still learning! But the most memorable experiences have been seeing replies on threads where I have offered support to users who need it the most it is very rewarding.
Do you ever have any difficulty balancing TheSite.org's editorial line with your own personal beliefs, how do you deal with this?
Not at all as I also believe in empowering young people with information to allow them to make their own choices. I only wish I had access to such a brilliant site when I was growing up!
What do you do other than moderating?
I am currently studying Law at University and hopefully next year I will go on to study the Legal Practice Course which is the next step in qualifying as a Solicitor. My legal background sometimes comes through in my posts on TheSite as I like offering practical advice. I also volunteer at other organisations in advisory roles. Outside studying and volunteering, I would like to travel the world more and be more creative.
If you could change peoples opinions on one subject, what would it be and why?
It would have to be to change peoples views about lawyers and the legal industry. Some people seem to think lawyers are boring and only pursue this career for money and/or fame. Whilst I'm sure some lawyers do this, as in any other profession, the majority do not (me included). The majority wish to help those who need it the most and want to make sense of the vast and complex law in the UK for the benefit of everyone.
If you had to be locked in a lift with another person who would it be and why?
I was actually stuck in a lift in my second year of University due to a power cut in the halls where I was living. Luckily, I was with all my friends (about 6 of us) as we were on our way out somewhere. It was definitely less scary as we were altogether and we still laugh about it now. So, if I was ever stuck in a lift I would like it to be with my loved ones.
"Every time I log on to the boards I learn something new simply because TheSite is open to everyone from all walks of life and locations."
Do you learn from the users' experiences?
Yes, all the time. Every time I log on to the boards I learn something new simply because TheSite is open to everyone from all walks of life and locations. This is what I love about TheSite.
If you could set up one new forum what would it be?
Being a student for my whole life, Ive been pretty skint. A forum where we can share money saving ideas or discount vouchers would be awesome.
How does being a moderator fit with your career aims, if at all?
I am determined to be a Solicitor and being a moderator has helped me develop skills that will be useful to my future career. For example, listening to people and providing practical guidance that is tailored to them. I've also learnt to manage my time well and generally be more organised.
What's your favourite thread at the moment?
I moderate the Home, Law and Money forum but I've just come across a thread in the Creative forum where users have been sharing what they've been making at the moment; from knitting to songs. It is true inspiration for me to think more outside the box and be more creative.
If I was... I'd be a... because....
If I was a time traveller I'd go to Medieval London because the recent BBC programme about this has made me curious about how filthy it actually was.
