Therapy is such a personal and initimate experience that it is essential you feel comfortable with who you are working with. One thing to consider is that just because they are qualified and have so many years of experience, they do not know you better than you know yourself and it is not worth putting up with a relationship that you feel uncomfotable in just because you believe they are the experts. As a trainee counsellor I fully expect that not every client I have will want to work with me, it is like any relaitonship, we can't expect to get along with everyone! I know that I would prefer my client to work with someone that they can have an effective therapeutic relationship with as that is the only way that they will get the best results. Do your research, find out what the therapist specialises in, what qualifications they have and most importantly can you trust them? You will be exploring some very intimate feelings and thoughts with this person so you need to feel comfortable in their company
