Post-cum

Question

I've heard of pre-cum but I was wondering whether it's normal to have the same clear, slightly sticky liquid coming out after ejaculation?

Answer

Semen can be thick and almost yellow or it can be thin, clear and watery and it's normal for the penis to leak some excess semen after ejaculation. If this has only started to happen recently you might want to speak to someone who is medically trained to make sure everything is OK.

You can speak to a nurse via the fpa Helpline on 0845 310 1334, or NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. Alternatively, you can get medical advice from a doctor at your local Brook Centre, family planning clinic or from your local doctor (GP).

Unusual discharge can sometimes be a sign of a sexually transmitted infection (STI). You can get tested for STIs at your local genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic. To reduce the risk of getting an STI always use a condom during sex.

If you'd like to talk to someone about this issue you can call the Brook Freephone Helpline on 0800 0185 023 in complete confidence.
