Question

How do I go about getting the pill?

Answer

The contraceptive pill is one of the most common methods of contraception in the UK. There are two main types of pill: the combined pill and the progestogen only pill. If taken correctly, both types of the contraceptive pill are highly effective in reducing the risk of unwanted pregnancy.

If you're interested in starting the contraceptive pill you can go along to your local Brook Centre (under 25s), family planning clinic or your local doctor (GP). Advice is given in confidence and contraception will be free.

Not all methods of contraception are suitable for everyone so the pill has to be prescribed by a doctor who will make sure it's suitable for you to take. To do this, a doctor or nurse will ask you questions about your own, and your family's, medical history to help decide which method of contraception will suit you best.

If you want to discuss your situation, you can call the Brook Helpline on 0800 0185 023.
