Present puzzle

Question

It's almost a year since I started seeing my boyfriend and I know he's planning something special, so I want to get him a great gift.

Problem is I can't think of anything. What would be a good gift to show how much I think of him?

Answer

It sounds like you're in a great relationship and congratulations on the anniversary. But unless you're lucky, you probably don't have loads of money to do something extravagant. If you and your boyfriend are still together after five years or something, you could always plan to whisk him off for a romantic weekend, but that might be out of your range right now.

You might find one of his mates would have a good idea about something he'd like that you could afford. Or maybe his mum would have some ideas.

But thinking more low cost, perhaps you could cook him a romantic meal either at his house or yours. Or you could make up a hand-made chequebook with promises on every page of things that he'd like - for example, one page could read 'I promise to give you a hug', or 'I promise to give you a massage'.  Once you get thinking, you can probably dream up far better promises than that.

Finally, if he is taking you out somewhere nice on your anniversary, you could always buy him a single red rose for his buttonhole. Many lads would feel too embarrassed to wear one, but if you boyfriend is a romantic he might go for it. And guys do like flowers, and the sentiment behind them, just as much as women.
