Question

I'm pregnant and I don't know how to tell my parents. I'm in such a state about it, what should I do?

Answer

You've had a shock, but please don't panic; no matter how isolated you might feel help and support is out there.

Right now, you need to be certain that you're pregnant. If you haven't done so already, visit your local doctor (GP), family planning clinic or your nearest Brook Centre. There, you'll get free, confidential pregnancy testing and advice from friendly staff. What's more, if you are pregnant they'll help you to go through the options available so you can work out what's right for you under the circumstances.

At the same time, they'll stand by you when it comes to informing your parents. The news may come as a shock to them, and there is never an easy way to break it. No matter what their first response, however, you are still their daughter, and your welfare remains their number one priority.

Whatever decision you make, it's vital you surround yourself with people who care about you in order to get through this tough time.
