Beauty and the geek
Question
I am a total geek and can't get a girl because they all laugh at me before I even talk to them. Talk about judging a book by its cover! Can you help me?
Answer
Firstly, please don't talk yourself down by referring to yourself as a geek. Whether or not you consider it to be a term of derision, it is a form of stereotyping. The fact is, you're an individual with unique qualities to offer.
The next step is to build your self-confidence so that you're happy and relaxed in the company of others. Start by identifying aspects of yourself that others like and admire. It doesn't have to be much, from your sense of humour to the way you smile, and then build on it. If you can see how positively people respond, you'll find the buzz will help you develop your self-esteem.
As for meeting girls, people often say you find love just as soon as you stop looking for it. There is a grain of truth in this; it helps to be a friend to girls you like first, rather than a boyfriend in waiting. It'll also help you to break the ice, because there won't be so much expectation on your shoulders - and that relaxed vibe will be clear to everyone around you.
When it comes to meeting girls on your wavelength, consider the things in life that interest you, and the places you're most likely to find those that share the same passion. It can be anything from a club to a pub to an internet message board. Whatever the case, finding the right environment should help you to open up and be yourself - which is the most attractive thing you can offer anyone.
