Meeting offline

On the internet it's easy for people to pretend to be someone they're not. So if you're planning an offline meeting with someone you've only met online, you need to take care.

Do:

• Speak first on the phone - it will give you a better sense of what they're like;
• Meet in public during daylight hours;
• Take a friend along with you;
• Let someone know where you are going, who you are meeting, and what time you expect to be home.
• Take your phone with you and make sure you can get a signal;
• Be yourself - don't pretend to be something you're not;
• Make your excuses and leave if you feel uncomfortable.
