What will the council need to find out?
They will want to know if you:
- Are homeless;
- Are 'eligible for assistance';
- Are in 'priority need';
- Became homeless deliberately;
- Have a connection with its area.
If you apply as homeless and the council accepts you as a priority need, it must house you, even if it is just temporarily.
Am I in priority need?
You are likely to be classed as priority need if you:
- Are under 18 or have been in care;
- Have been affected by a fire or disaster;
- Are elderly, disabled or pregnant;
- Are at risk from violence;
- Have recently left prison or the armed forces;
- If you are under 25 and have problems with drugs or alcohol.
