Emergency first aid

1 2

How to cope in a crisis.

The basics

Your personal safety comes first. If in doubt, stay away and call the emergency services.

Shock

Though there might be no physical injuries many victims of crime will be in shock. Sit them down somewhere warm and keep them calm.

Punched or kicked

Even if someone hasn't been knocked unconscious, they still need to have an ambulance called for them - there could be internal bleeding.

Beaten unconscious

If someone has been knocked out but has regained consciousness, try to make them lie down and rest until medical help arrives.

Hit and run

If they're conscious when you find them, keep them in the position you found them in to avoid making their injuries worse, and call 999. If they are unconscious, very gently turn them on their side to keep the airway open.
