Court orders and credit ratings
Question
I had a Magistrate's Court order made against me when I didn't pay a parking fine on time. I was away travelling and did pay the fine to the bailiffs as soon as I came home. Will this affect my credit record in the same way that a County Court Judgement would?
Answer
Although a judgement was made and you had to pay the ticket, this type of judgement would not be entered on the Register of County Court Judgments, so shouldn't affect your access to credit in the future. It's also possible to search the Register to see if you're there.
For more information about parking and appealing against a ticket you can look at the Parking Appeals website.
If you do have trouble getting credit you can check with Credit Reference Agencies to see what information they hold on you. The Credit Reference Agencies are: Experian (0870 241 6212); Equifax (0870 010 0583); and Callcredit (0870 060 1414).
