My fiancée and I have just found out we're expecting our first child. I work full time and earn around £13,000 and my fiancée is a student nurse on a bursary. What benefits can we claim?

Answer

Without knowing a great deal more about your personal circumstances it's impossible to give anything other than a list of benefits you might be entitled to. Many will depend on your joint income, savings, type of housing, age and whether you leave work or take maternity leave.

Your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)  will be able to check your household's circumstances and make a a fairly accurate prediction about the benefits and tax credits you might be entitled to.
