Question

As a student, is there anything to stop me from opening more than one account? I'm hoping to be able to more than one free gift!

Answer

Legally, there's nothing to stop you from opening several student bank accounts. But it's worth knowing that most banks don't release free gifts or cash incentives until you've paid in your loan cheque.

You may find other ways to blag freebies are also blocked. By reading the terms and conditions, for example, you can establish whether the bank is able to take the gift back if you close your account within a specified period.

There are a variety of offers available from banks for students. For more advice about choosing the best one for you, try Moneyfacts.co.uk, Defaqto.com and TheSite.org.
