Question

I've just moved into a rented flat but there's no television aerial supplied. I assumed one would be there but it wasn't mentioned before I moved in. Is my landlord required to fit an aerial?

Answer

Whilst it might seem odd that there's no TV aerial, it's not one of the things a landlord is required to fit, unlike running water and power.

Your best option might be get in touch with your landlord and discuss the situation. If he doesn't want to help you and you decide to get an aerial fitted yourself you'll still need to get your landlord's permission to do it.

In addition, if you live in a listed building or a conservation area you might also need planning permission to install either an aerial or a satellite dish. So if you install the aerial yourself you should contact your local council about possible planning problems.
