Stalker stress
Question
I've had a stalker for over a year now. I've got video evidence and witnesses of what this person has been putting me through but I don't know who they are. The police are aware of what's going on but I don't feel they're taking it seriously. What can I do?
Answer
It sounds like you've been having a really difficult time and are understandably confused and worried about what to do for the best. It does appear that you have grounds to make a complaint of harassment to the police. As the situation is causing you so much fear, you can make the complaint under sections 125-127 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.
You could also ask the courts to grant an injunction against the stalker. The main problem with this option is that you don't know who they are, and without this information it's difficult to make an application.
Your best way forward is to keep in contact with the police, asking them what is happening about your case, and making your fears clear to them. If you find no progress is being made, you may want to consider writing to the chief constable. And if this fails, you can always make a formal complaint about the service you have received.
You may also find it helpful to find out more about the laws around harrassment and where you stand.
