What a ball ache
Question
I play a lot of rugby and a week ago I was kicked lightly in the groin. The next day, one of my testicles started to ache. It's not an intense pain; more of a light, dull ache. I've been kicked a lot harder in the past with no side effects like this. Is it just bruised, or something worse? I don't know whether I should get a check up. Please help.
Answer
You are understandably concerned with the fact that you are experiencing a light, dull ache in your testicles. Unfortunately we can't tell you if this is just a bruised testicle or something else. As there are many possible reasons for your pain, and it's impossible to diagnose over the internet, it's best for you to see your local doctor (GP). They will be able to examine you properly and offer the right treatment if needed.
Many men feel too embarrassed to see their doctor with problems like this, and forget that GPs deal with similar problems on a daily basis. Although there is nothing to be embarrassed about, you might be interested to know how to carry out regular testicular self-examinations as a way of detecting any problems.
There are a number of problems that can affect the testicles so it's important that you are given the right information. If you experience any pain, notice any changes in their appearance, or have any concerns about your testicles in general, you should always seek the advice of your doctor.
