Warts the problem?

Question

I have a wart on the end of my chin. I hate it, is there any way I get rid of it?

Answer

Warts are a very common ailment. They are caused by a virus called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). According to NHS Direct about 1 in 10 people in the UK have warts at any one time.

Warts tend to be contracted when you're feeling ill or run down and your immune system is not at its best. It's at times like these that viruses can take advantage. Warts are usually passed on via skin to skin contact and this is especially the case if you have any cuts or grazes where the virus can enter your system.

There are a number of different treatments available for removing warts and your local doctor (GP) will be able to discuss these with you further.

If you feel unable to talk it over with your doctor then there are a number of different products available over the counter at your local pharmacy. The most common treatment is Salicylic acid which works by drying the skin and reducing the amount of oil it produces. Used on the affected area, and only as prescribed, you'll find that within 10-15 days the wart should detach itself. However, your doctor may have access to more powerful treatments that could start to work immediately.
