Question

In the last couple of months I've started getting nervous twitches in all parts of my body. They're only minor but I can't control them and it's very embarrassing when they happen on my face. In the last few days I've also had constant pins and needles in the small and ring finger on my left hand. It's very uncomfortable and annoying. What do you think is wrong with me?

Answer

It's understandable that you are concerned about these symptoms and, while they might be nothing serious at all, the only way to get a proper diagnosis is to visit your local doctor (GP). They will be able to examine you properly, let you know if there is any medical condition causing the symptoms you describe, and hopefully put your mind at ease.

Muscle twitches are in fact very common and aren't necessarily symptoms of any medical condition. For example, tiredness, muscle fatigue and stress can all cause muscle twitching.

Likewise, pins & needles could have many different causes. One possibility is that a bang on the arm has affected the nerve running from your elbow to hand - if so, this should get better over time.
