Question

I want to get my hair permed as it needs a bit of a lift and I would like a change from my very straight hair. I asked the hair dresser, they did a couple of tests and said that my hair was lacking protein and too weak to take the perm. Can you suggest anything to add strength?

Answer

There are different methods you can try to improve the condition and strength of your hair. For starters, you can try to boost your vitamin intake by eating as few processed foods as possible and eating a healthy diet including lots of fruit and vegetables, as they contain antioxidants and nutrients which are beneficial for your hair.

In addition, health food shops often sell vitamin tablets specifically aimed at 'improving' the hair and skin and you could try one of these, although a regular multi-vitamin should be fine.

There are also specific hair care products aimed at improving the condition of hair. If you'd like to try this it might be worth speaking to your again hairdresser for further advice and information.
