Freebasing
Question
What does 'freebasing' cocaine mean? I heard someone talking about it and I don't understand what it is.
Answer
Cocaine can be used in many different ways. Freebasing is the method by which cocaine is mixed with other compounds, like ether and ammonia or baking powder, to crystallise it. This process makes it easier to smoke.
It's not really a good idea to freebase coke. Freebasing can be dangerous on many levels. Firstly, you might not know what compound has been mixed with the cocaine. This can be a problem because you can't predict the effects or side effects of the compound. The process also reduces the purity of the cocaine. It's also worth knowing that smoking is risky because you could burn or seriously hurt yourself and not realise it because cocaine is an anaesthetic.
