Making the grade

Question

Is it possible to maintain good grades at school if I'm using hard drugs at the weekend?

Answer

Many people claim that you can use drugs and lead a normal, productive life. Of course, you might think you can keep your use under control, limiting it to weekends only. However, this is not always possible and before you know it, drugs might take over your life.

This might sound like the voice of doom, but it is very easy to develop a dependence on drugs. You might have heard that you can't get addicted to certain drugs. Although certain drugs might not lead to physical addiction, they can lead to psychological addiction. If this happens you could begin to prioritise the drugs over anything else in your life, including school, your friends, family and future.

So, the answer to your question is that you probably can't use hard drugs on the weekends and keep up with school work. It's not a good idea if you have things in your life that you want to accomplish.

If you would like to get some information about the drugs you are using, contact Frank on 0800 77 66 00. You will be able to get free and confidential advice and information about drugs and they will also provide you with contact details for drug support services for young people that are in your local area.
