Community: The Social

Join the community

Hello! Welcome to TheSite.org discussion boards. This is a safe space where you can talk to people about anything that is worrying you, learn new information from your peers and chat about topics that interest you.

The Health & Wellbeing forum is the section where you can get support around issues related to self-harm. You can search the forum to find previous threads (discussions) on topics that interest you, post new threads about your specific situation or post replies to other people's threads.

There is also an ongoing thread, started in 2002, which has a specific focus on depression and self-harming. Many people post here for general ongoing support and distraction. However, we always encourage people to post their own new threads when looking for support on more specific questions.

Thoughts from the community

Don't just take our word for it that TheSite.org is a helpful and supportive place to post. We asked the community to tell us how useful they've found the Health & Fitness forum. Here are some of their thoughts:

"I find it useful; if not to get answers to questions then to feel supported and have someone to talk to about issues that may be difficult to talk about to people face-to-face."

"I found it useful and supportive particularly with my depression and self- harming difficulties. I've also been able to use it to support others going through similar difficulties as I recovered."

"I've found it helpful for peer support and shared experiences. It is quite difficult to be able to share your experiences or worries about many health related issues in real life, so a supportive anonymous environment is very helpful."

"I have found it very useful to discuss my issues with others, find other view points and be directed in the right direction for getting further help."

Getting further support

"I have found it very useful to discuss my issues with others, find other view points and be directed in the right direction for getting further help."

While TheSite.org is great for support and distraction, what we can't provide is expert help with specific problems. Fellow members and moderators will be able to suggest helplines and places to go for professional support, many of which are listed in our need help now section on TheSite.org. So while the boards can serve as an enhancement to other treatments you are receiving, they are in no way an alternative. For further advice on getting the best kind of support for your specific situation, we'd also encourage you to write to askTheSite.

The bigger picture

If you decide to register for TheSite.org discussion boards then you'll have access to the whole range of forums alongside Health & Wellbeing By engaging with all sections of the boards you will be able to find help on many different topics, chat to an interesting and diverse bunch of people and keep up to date with all kinds of activity that's taking place across TheSite.org.

Meet the mods

In the first paragraph we mentioned that the boards are a 'safe' place. This is partly down to the fact that we encourage and support anonymity on TheSite.org, but also because we have a clear moderating policy, which means moderators are constantly checking the boards to make sure the rules are being followed and users have a point of contact should they be worried about anything.
