Kimono

Kimono moderates the drugs, style & appearance and student boards. Here she lets slip what it's really like to to work as a Journo at TheSite and how deciding who to get stuck in a lift with takes a lot of thinking about.

What's been your most memorable experience as a moderator?

Kicking everyone's arses on Puzzle Bobble on Nihilistic Madman's game arcade. Confession time: in my bid to get the highest score, I kept the game turned on overnight and just logged off my PC, so that I could just continue where I left off the next day. I won't disclose how many hours it took me.

Do you ever have any difficulty balancing TheSite.org's editorial line with your own personal beliefs, how do you deal with this?

No - I guess my experience of being impartial where necessary as a journalist means that I'm used to biting my tongue if needs be. I just sound off to my colleagues instead.

What do you do other than moderating?

Sitting in the noisiest, messiest corner of the office, I'm one of two full-time journalists at YouthNet. My job involves writing and researching articles for TheSite.org and do-it.org.uk. I manage certain sections of TheSite.org, principally Drink & Drugs and Travel & Free Time.

Much of my time is spent figuring out what the hell all this crap is on my desk, how much of it has migrated from JimV's way and whether I should just throw it all in the bin, get organised and do some work for once (sorry, Spanner, I didn't mean that last bit).

If you had to be locked in a lift with another person who would it be and why?

It would have to be someone funny, wouldn't it? It's all very well choosing someone you fancy, but for a start most lifts I go in seem to be a bit grubby and, well, small. So they're not exactly the most enticing places to come over all lusty. Also, what if you're stuck in the lift for hours on end, and the fit person happens to be extremely dull and annoying? That would be so disappointing, yet there'd be no way out.

Right, so people who'd amuse me in a lift: Richard Pryor, Sean Lock, Bill Bailey, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Just pick one.

Actually, John McClane from Die Hard looks marvellous in a dirty vest and he knows how to break his way out of a lift. I should've just kept this answer short and said that in the first place.

In the words of Eric Cartman they can suck my balls (obviously I have none, though. Despite the rumours)

If you could change peoples' opinions on one subject, what would it be and why?

Blimey, broad question. Apart from stating the obvious - like wishing there were no racist, homophobic, sexist or suchlike people - I disagree with others' opinions all the time. To be honest, I never really think about whether I'd actually like to change their views. Different opinions usually just mean livelier discussions and a more diverse world to live in, and I'm cool with that. I mean, being a heavily tattooed, female vegetarian, there are plenty of others who don't particularly agree with my life choices. But hey, if that's the case, then in the words of Eric Cartman they can suck my balls (obviously I have none, though. Despite the rumours).

Do you learn from the posters' experiences?

All the time!

If you could set up one new forum what would it be?

A tattooing forum. Show your tats, discuss ideas, exhibitions and experiences - that sort of thing.

How does being a moderator fit with your career aims, if at all?

I'm not sure about aims, but moderating is an important aspect of my job role altogether, as it helps me get to know some of the people who actually use the content. The discussions also make extremely useful inspiration for content ideas and for reminding us if we need to update existing articles.

What was your favourite thread?

A while ago there was a 'vote for your favourite mod' thread. Briggi voted for me on the basis that I have superb taste in music. A very good (and true) reason, and also nice to know the users remember you for something other than just modding duties...

Finally...

If I was a rainforest I'd be the Amazon because I'm quite tall.
