My pregnancy diary
Every woman's pregnancy is a different experience. This is how it went for one new mum, Toni Speights.
Month One: I don't even feel pregnant, just a bit tired with some period-like pains. I've started craving salt, even eating it out of the pot.
Month Two: No morning sickness, but I've gone off anything with a strong flavour like bacon, garlic, and onions. My sense of smell is much more acute than normal. I get tired and a bit tearful sometimes, and have started running to the loo more often.
Month Three: My stomach feels a bit like I have water retention, and my usual clothes still fit but feel tight. I'm not moody, but don't feel very sexy. I get queasy in the morning on an empty stomach, but am usually okay after breakfast.
Month Four: The bump is starting to show, and I'm feeling good and eating lots of food, especially sweets. My skin and hair look great and I'm in a good mood. Got a kidney infection and felt dreadful last week, but it has cleared up now.
Month Five: I like my bump, it's getting really big and obvious now. Feeling happy, lots of energy during the day but tired in the evenings. Eating like a horse now.
Month Six: Feeling quite tired, still hungry and eating big bags of red liquorice between meals.
Month Seven: Ugh! Not having much fun. Got an aching back and groin pain. Sometimes find myself getting short of breath, panicky, and having heart palpitations.
Month Eight: I'm knackered all the time, sleeping over 12 hours a day. The baby is really heavy now, so I've got a bad back and sciatica and find it almost impossible to get comfortable. I'm OK, but feeling REALLY ratty.
Month Nine: Feeling very heavy and uncomfortable and getting up every hour in the night to wee now. Can't eat large meals any more because the baby is pressing on my stomach. I've started getting stretch marks and have horrible heartburn, and spotty, greasy skin. I'm definitely ready to have the baby, right now!
Month Ten: I went 16 days overdue - a very hard few days. But according to my friends and the midwife, overall this was quite an easy pregnancy.
