Men in make up

Luby

Luby is a part-time student, a huge Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana and Placebo fan and proud head banger. She resides in dark corners and is most likely to be found reading a very thick book on psychology while listening to very loud rock music. She always wears black!

Luby hurls a mascara wand at those of you who slag off her made-up male mates.

In the '80s make up was just part of the new romantic look. In the '90s if you wore it you were a transvestite, and now in the new millennium, it's OK for some and not others. Why? I just don't get it. I know it's seen as something that diminishes a guy's masculinity, but if make up is just meant to make you look better, why can't blokes use it? Make up can look just as good on the male of the species if applied properly and if we use it to help boost our confidence and feel better about the way we look, why can't guys do the same? Lots of my male mates wear make up, and I don't mind sharing my products with them. I have painted many a guy's nails, dyed their hair and even plucked one guy's eyebrows, though he did say he was never having them plucked again because of the pain! I am totally fed up of people saying that the boys I like are gay because they wear make up. They're not, but really would it matter if they were? Their sexuality is not determined by wearing a little eyeliner, and besides which why shouldn't they? Last time I checked it wasn't against the law.

Honestly I would kill for someone to give me a decent answer to why guys shouldn't wear make up. Instead they just taunt, calling my friends "pretty boys", well yes they are 'pretty' because they give a damn about how they look, but this doesn't mean they can't be straight either. Just take a look at Robert Smith from The Cure, a gothic make up-wearing dude, now married with kids, who still has zillions of adoring female fans (TheSite girls think he's a babe too - Ed). And people like Marilyn Manson, so many people have said he is gay, but have you seen his girlfriend? I would love to look like her!

There are so many narrow-minded people out there who are "slaves to fashion",that will just say something is nasty because it's not in vogue. They also have a go at the whole goth thing but I don't see what is wrong with it. Guys wearing make up is just a part of the gothic look which I find oh-so-sexy but other people still get really weird about it. I know many people see make up on guys as too girlie but I disagree, it makes them look good and if a guy cares about his appearance, then I think he would make a good boyfriend. OK, I know this is not always the case but I know I would much rather have a night out with a good looking stud who is wearing make up, than have a night in with a lager lout whose ideal date would be slobbing about on a Saturday night with a bad curry and, even worse, TV. Besides, society forces guys to be macho and try and make themselves seem bigand strong when they don't need to, I feel that guys who are in touchwith their feminine side seem much more balanced and secure people.

I do have a problem with vain guys who seem to live in the gym, it's thetestosterone thing I think, and yes, a well-toned body is nice to lookat, but I don't want to date a bodybuilder whois more interested in his muscles than me! I don't have a problem withsporty blokes either, some are even quite attractive and I'm a big fanof Rugby (especially if Wales win!), but I don't get the whole 'I mustbe big and strong and have hard muscles to show off to the girls'thing. It's pointless, I much prefer guys who are normally built anddon't stink of sweat! So is all make up good on a guy? Not quite, I agree that the whole orange day glow thing isn't a good look for anyone, male or female, but a little foundation, a little shadow and lippy looks great.
