TheSite.org Awards 2006

In December 2006 we asked you to vote for both the most brilliant and dire entertainment of the year. You told us what you thought were the best and worst movies, actors, music artists and celebrity moments. So what made you dance with joy and who made you hide behind the sofa and cringe? Read on to find out.

Top ten best actors

The Bond fans, or should we say Casino Royale fans, voted for Daniel Craig to win the award for best actor in the first round. Johnny Depp is close behind, leaving us wondering whether we must have missed a film he was in last year. Sorry, make that 'good film' he was in.

Top ten worst actors

Admiration for Daniel Craig is clearly not universal - he's third on the list of your top ten worst actors. But there's no evidence of such a love/hate reception for Keira Knightley, who was only mentioned in the worst category.

Best and worst films

The top five films for the best and worst categories are almost identical, this probably says more about the films you watched last year than what you actually liked or disliked. But it's no surprise that films such as The Departed and High School Musical have stayed firmly in separate categories – no prizes for guessing which.

Best and worst celebrity scandals

Britney Spears gave you the most gossip to chew on in 2006. If you weren't celebrating her split and divorce with Kevin Federline then you were commiserating how much air time it took up. You also commented on her benders with Paris Hilton and the moment the paparazzi snapped her stumbling with her baby.

Outside the Britney bubble, celebrity couples were the most popular source of gossip. Among those who caught your attention were Katie Price (aka Jordan) and Peter Andre, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, as well as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

You told us that you considered a story to be good either because you were happy about the news or it contained juicy gossip. Stories were bad either because they made you feel sad or they were just plain dull.

Best music in 2006

We predicted that your favourite artists would relate to your favourite singles. Interestingly, this wasn't the case for 50% of them. Razorlight were popular all round as you voted for them to win the award for best music act and they were just beaten by Snow Patrol in the race for best single. 

Worst music in 2006

You certainly have the knack for identifying bad music. We'd be hard pushed to think of anyone who could tip Jordan and Pete Andre off the top spot for their sick-making abilities. Our ears are still healing since listening to Chacarron too.
