Helpline Volunteers

British Stammering Association

The British Stammering Association require volunteers for our national helpline. Tasks include giving information and support, and signposting to organisation, such as NHS. Training:Once you have been accepted as a volunteer, you will be inducted, and then start your training. This is 1 hour per week for 4 weeks, completed over the telephone. If you live locally, it may be possible for you to come in to the office to do the training.Timings:Monday 10.30am-12.30pm, 1.30-3.30pm, 7-9pmTuesday 1.30-3.30pm, 7-9pmThursday 10.30am-12.30pm, 1.30-3.30pmFriday 10.30am-12.30pm, 1.30-3.30pmTime Commitment:2 hours per a week, if possible for 6 months

E-befriender

National Autistic Society

The e-befriending scheme offers people with autism the chance to build friendships with a trained volunteer through email. E-befriending takes on average 1 hour a week and can be done from home or from anywhere that you have internet access. This new service is a supplement to the befriending service and will provide people with autism the opportunity to learn social and communication skills in a way that may be more suitable to them.

Social Event and Trips Escort/Wheelchair Pusher (2049)

Connaught House

Volunteers are required to help enable more tenants at Connaught House to go out on trips. Volunteers would push tenants in wheelchairs, assist them on and off transport., escort whilst on the trip and help at meal times carrying trays, collecting drinks etc. Dates for this summer are: 21st May - Amberton Farm, 2nd June - Wyevale Garden Centre, Hinckley, 21st July - Tropical Birds, 11th August - Twycross Zoo. Lunch/refreshments and transport from Connaught House will be provided.

Publicity / Design

REMAP

Organise and coordinate publicity for the REMAP Leicestershire Panel. Publicity is required to recruit engineering volunteers, invite donations, and to inform medical professionals (particularly Occupational Therapists in the NHS and Social Services) of the help we can provide for their clients. The Panel works on a minimal budget derived entirely from donations and meets monthly in Leicester. Can work mainly from home via I.T.

You can undertake this volunteering opportunity from your home when you have completed your training. If you enjoy chatting on the phone - and helping someone at the same time - this might be the volunteering role for you! The 'Listening Ear' Volunteer Telephone Support Service provides telephone support to people with dementia and their carers. This will involve a regular session in our office, calling people with dementia and carers and having a chat about how they are. People with dementia and their carers can become very socially isolated and this service aims to help them feel less alone.
