E-befriender

National Autistic Society

The e-befriending scheme offers people with autism the chance to build friendships with a trained volunteer through email. E-befriending takes on average 1 hour a week and can be done from home or from anywhere that you have internet access. This new service is a supplement to the befriending service and will provide people with autism the opportunity to learn social and communication skills in a way that may be more suitable to them.

Virtual YAT

vinvolved Coventry (VAC)

The Youth Action Team is a group made up of young volunteers aged 16-25 who help develop, influence and support the vinvolved teams activity in Coventry. We are now launching a new role Virtual YAT.vinvolved rely heavily on the important input that young people give them through their YAT roles. However, not everyone can commit to attending all the meetings required for many of the roles. The Virtual YAT role will allow you to have your say and be consulted on a range of ideas and activities presented by the vinvolved team. This could involve you identifying a community issue and highlighting what activities you want locally to tackle the issues. The YAT also have a budget so you could have your say on how that budget is spent to develop youth volunteering in Coventry. The beauty of this role is that its all virtual, you may be required to respond to emails or online survey without even leaving your bedroom and you can still work toward gaining your national v awards and the many incentives vinvolved Coventry offer their young volunteers.

Tea Party Host

Contact the Elderly

Do you live near or in the borough of Brent, have a downstairs toilet and no or few steps into your house? If you also have a welcoming personality you could be the perfect Contact the Elderly host.Once or twice a year on a Sunday afternoon. hosts welcome a group of very lonely, elderly people and their drivers to tea at home. The group goes to a different home every month for their tea and it's a wonderful opportunity for some of the most vulnerable people in the community to get out of the house and do what they miss most - sit and chat and enjoy other people's company in a friendly setting. The local group consists of 6-8 elderly people and 3-4 volunteer drivers, and they arrive around 3pm, leaving at about 5-5.30pm. The only requirement for hosting is a downstairs toilet, seats for the elderly and few or no steps. Plus a few cakes and sandwiches and, of course, a warm welcome!
