Witness Support Volunteers cover 3 criminal courts in Bedfordshire. They are required if possible one day a week during day time. Attending court can be an intimidating and stressful experience for people. Our Witness Support Volunteers are there to provide emotional and practical support. This is an interesting and varied role that can include visiting court with the witness prior to giving evidence, accompanying witnesses into court or help them read through statements or listen to their concerns, to providing support for vulnerable witnesses via video link We are looking for volunteers who are able to give us a time commitment of 1 full day per week (9.30-3.30 Mon to Friday)

Volunteers are needed to run Self-Help groups on the telephone, these groups are specifically structured to aid anxiety sufferers. If preferred one-to-one 1 week courses, also over an 8 week period and this would involve one-to-one with sufferers.Trainee voluntees undergo 8 week training programme by phone and once trained they are closely supervised and monitored for the first three months.Volunteers attend monthly Volunteer Support Group Meeting (on the phone).The 0845 helpline is from 10am to 10pm and volunteers work one 4 hour shift per week when the helpline is switched over to each volunteer's home telephone.

You achieve great emotional support in just listening. You may visit people in their homes or elsewhere to talk things through.One you have volunteered for about six months, there's an option of specialising with further training in, for example, domestic violence, sexual violence, young victims or supporting young people bereaved by crime.

Are you a good listener; friendly, patient and enjoy talking on the telephone?Our Telebefriending Service creates befriending relationships on the phone between volunteers and isolated older people.Volunteers phone 1 -3 older people in England or Wales, to reduce their feelings of isolation and loneliness and enhance their contact with the outside world.Volunteers call on a regular basis and build up firm friendships over time, on the phone. The calls will be made from your own home or place of work, in line with Employer Supported Volunteer schemes.Time Commitment:You will call an older person at least twice a month for up to half an hour.Training:We provide full training, offer regular social events and reimburse expenses.
