Down with debt

When I finished university at the end of 2003, lots of my friends were consolidating their overdrafts with their credit card debts. I was quite impressed with them - it seemed like such a grown-up thing to do. It really sounded like a good idea. But, something held me back from doing it myself. In our recent live chat with Elinor Quinn, a debt advisor from the Counsumer Credit Counselling Service, she said that it wasn't necessarily such a good idea. I guess it depends on the amount you owe, and whether or not you mind paying more in the long term.

Elinor also chatted about those dreaded bank charges, mortgages and stopping yourself from blowing your pay packet in one go. Here's the full transcript.
