Sometimes, the reality of a new date doesn't match up to your first impression. Here are our quick-fix cures.
You thought they would be amazing
Symptom: When you've spent a long time idealising what it would be like to date this someone they often don't live up to that dream.
Cure: Ask yourself if they are genuinely a disappointment, or whether your expectations were unfairly high. If you're unsure then why not go with it for a while and see if things settle down. But if you know you're heart genuinely isn't in this relationship then it's only fair that you call it a day. Be honest but don't go blaming them. Treat them with the kind of respect you'd expect yourself, and at least you stand a good chance of moving on with your friendship intact.
They're putting on an act
Symptom: When your partner isn't being straight with you, whether they are telling tall tales, putting on fake accents or claiming to be something they are not, you need to sort it out. It may simply be that they are trying to impress you because they fear they aren't good enough for you...
Cure: You have to be open with them about this. Call them up. Invite him or her for a drink somewhere public. When you meet, don't steam in with accusations but let them know what's nagging you. Then just give them a chance to explain things.
With any luck, you'll find they are telling you the truth but if there's any doubt in your mind think twice about accepting another invitation to go out with them. After all, do you really feel comfortable developing a relationship with someone you find hard to trust? Saying that, if the lies were harmless and it was just because they were afraid of losing you, may be you should give them another chance on the condition they try and be truthful from now on.
