Pregnant after miscarriage?
Question
I had a miscarriage about two weeks ago and my boyfriend and I hope to fall pregnant quite quickly. Recently I've been feeling sick. Is it possible to get pregnant so soon after a miscarriage?
Answer
It sounds like you've been through a traumatic time with your miscarriage (the spontaneous ending of a pregnancy before the 24th week of pregnancy).
Most miscarriages occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. According to The Miscarriage Association, your next period will normally come after six weeks or so. If they were irregular before, then it may be longer. Also, your fertility will return before your next period, so if you feel pregnant again, it may be useful to take a pregnancy test to see if it is positive.
If you would like to find out more about your situation, The Miscarriage Association provides information and support for people affected by pregnancy loss. You can speak to one of the advisors on 01924 200 799.
In addition, by visiting a Brook centre you will able to see a doctor or nurse or see a counsellor to talk things through. Alternatively, you can get medical advice through your local doctor (GP) or via the fpa helpline on 0845 310 1334.
