Tongue trouble

I keep avoiding French kissing, I've had a few chances but get too worried about making a mistake. How do I do it properly?

Unfortunately it's pretty much impossible for one person to tell another exactly how to French kiss because once you're in there doing it you will naturally discover your own style.
At any rate, try to make sure your first kiss is with someone you fancy as kissing is quite an intimate experience and it would be a shame to be put off by kissing the wrong person. It's probably also worth pointing out that the first moment when two people's mouths actually meet and open often happens very quickly and spontaneously so you can't really prepare yourself for it.
The best advice I can give you is to not worry about it so much, start out gently rolling your tongue around his and be open to picking up clues about what he likes from his technique. Don't forget, chances are he won't be a pro either and whenever two people have any kind of sexual contact for the first time they need to discover and adjust to what the other wants and likes. Have fun and try not to take it too seriously.
