Find me some friends

Question

I seem to be stuck in a rut at the moment and people who are content to turn into couch potatoes seem to surround me. All my friends just sit around, watch TV and go on the internet. I'd really like to get something more out of life than an encyclopaedic knowledge of the internet.

I have a huge list of things I want to experience but no one I know seems interested. So how can I break out of this and make some new friends who enjoy going out and doing stuff?

Answer

The key is to make every effort to meet new people. If you feel held back by your friends, and want to make the most of your life, then the best thing to do is get out there and make it happen.

Of course, this isn't as easy as it sounds, but you stand every chance of connecting with like-minded people if you're confident in yourself and clear about your drive and ambition. You certainly sound like you know what you want out of life, and if that shines through then people will take notice.

On a practical level, if you've mastered the internet then use it to your advantage. Search for local activities, clubs, evening classes and social events that interest you, then log off and join in. It always takes a little effort to make that first step, but as soon as you click with someone who shares your interest you won't look back.
