Getting help
It's always better to seek help than to keep quiet and bottle things up. Your local doctor (GP) is a good place to start. They can advise you on other help, support and, if necessary, talking treatments or medication.
Helping yourself
- Try to take a positive outlook, taking one day at a time. Don't be too hard on yourself;
- Set small and achievable goals;
- Learn to relax - music and reading can help, or try techniques such as meditation, yoga, or pre-recorded relaxation tapes.
- Take exercise - it can trigger brain chemicals that will improve your mood.
- Eat well - lots of fresh vegetables and fruit will increase body energy. Try to avoid drinking too much tea and coffee as caffeine can increase anxiety levels;
- Talk to your friends and family about your worries.
