Raising your self-esteem
- Get motivated: Even if you kick off with a minor achievement, like holding your own in a conversation, it'll feed the courage of your convictions;
- Stay positive: Don't be down on yourself when people show an interest in you;
- Be nice: Don't try to deflect attention away from yourself by being critical of others.
- Learn from mistakes: See cock-ups as a learning experience, not another reason to feel lousier.
- Assert yourself: Don't get angry, just politely argue your case.
Counselling
Counselling and short-term cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) are very helpful for most people with low self-esteem. It allows you to clear out the cobwebs and release your inhibitions step by step.
