Missed periods
1 2 3 next steps
The medical term for missing periods for three months in a row is amenorrhea. There are many possible causes.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is the most common cause of amenorrhea. If you are pregnant you should not expect periods to resume until after childbirth and breast-feeding women may also find that they don't have periods.
Don't panic if you've missed a period, though - it might be nothing to worry about. If you are pregnant there are options, and there are lots of organisations that offer help, advice and support.
First period
For about a year after your first period it's not uncommon for your cycle to be very erratic or even to miss your period for several months.
