The risks:
- Ecstasy affects the body's natural thermostat. Dancing for long periods in a hot place such as a club increases the chances of users overheating and/or dehydrating;
- Ecstasy can also prevent the body producing urine, so if you drink a lot too quickly the effect can be deadly;
- Some users report feelings of paranoia and confusion;
- Ecstasy may leave women susceptible to cystitis and thrush;
- After the effects have subsided, users can feel tired and depressed for days;
- Long-term psychological effects are uncertain, but could include brain damage;
- There may be other ingredients in an E that could produce unexpected side effects;
- Anyone with a heart condition, blood pressure problems, epilepsy or asthma can have a dangerous reaction to the drug;
- Official statistics show that around 50 people die from ecstasy-related deaths each year.
