Bin barricade

Question

Im currently in the middle of a row with my neighbours. They claim that they need to drive over my drive to get to theirs. I was fine with that but now they are putting their bins on my drive, because they claim to own the land one metre all around their property. Could this be true?

Answer

Boundaries are clearly defined on property deeds and they would also include information about rights of way across your land and any restrictions imposed on those rights of way. It's doubtful that your neighbours would own any land beyond their property line.

Your first port of call should be the land registry to check the details of your property. If you don't feel confident doing this, you may want to contact a solicitor and ask them to research the position of your boundaries.

If you find that your neighbours have no right to place their dustbins on your land, you may want to ask a solicitor to write to them on your behalf, explaining the correct boundaries of the properties.
