Climate control

Question

Is there a minimum temperature set for working environments? I work in a warehouse and it's always freezing. I just need to know if I can refuse to work if the temperature drops below a certain level.

Answer

There are two minimum temperatures laid down by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) but they are both dependant on a number of different variables, including the type of building and the nature of the work being undertaken.

Basically, the temperatures are 16 degrees Celsius for office environments and 13 for areas where physical activity takes place. You can find out more, and work out how it applies to you by reading the HSE's temperature FAQ.
