Question

Lately, my poo has been sticky and difficult to push out. I'm a vegetarian, and also don't eat eggs. Could my diet be the cause?

Answer

There could be many reasons for the different types of stools you've been passing, such as diet or lifestyle. Alternatively, it may be something which needs to be diagnosed by a doctor such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or pancreatitis.

You mention being a vegetarian and that you don't eat eggs. This means you need to ask yourself whether you're including other essential nutrients in your diet such as fibre and vitamins. A balanced diet may help you see a difference in your poo.

Also, if your bowels are irritated (through illness or perhaps stress) they may pass food through faster than normal. This leaves less time for bacteria to digest the food, and therefore, produces sticky or hard faeces.

It's likely that your 'sticky poo' is nothing to worry about. Ultimately, however, if you're concerned about the situation you may benefit from visiting your doctor who can examine you properly and offer the right treatment if needed.
