I've got some acne scars that have been really bothering me for a while, how can I go about getting them removed? Other than laser treatment, what options are there?

There are ways of visibly reducing acne scars without using laser treatment. Although it sounds like you probably want to do this as quickly as possible, be aware that acne scars should not be surgically treated for about a year after their appearance because they are likely to reduce themselves in this time. Many treatments are also unsuitable if you have any 'active' acne.
One way of removing scars without laser treatment is by using a vitamin A-based emollient cream (emollient is the medical term for a non perfumed moisturiser). Using a cream such as Retinova on a regular basis can help reduce the scars over time.
You could also try silicone gel sheets, which are flexible sheets of gel that you shape to fit the area of the scarring. The sheet helps soften the scar and reduces redness. Emollient creams and silicone gel sheets are available from chemists.
Other options include chemical peels and dermabrasion (a surgical procedure which works by removing or 'sanding' away a layer of skin). However these procedures are not appropriate for everyone and there are risks involved.
If you are considering any of these solutions then you will need to discuss them with your local doctor (GP) or dermatologist first. They would be able to let you know what treatments are appropriate for you and should be able to refer you locally.
