Speed dreams

Question

I'm trying to give up taking speed but keep getting nightmares. What can I do to stop them?

Answer

Speed (also known as amphetamine) is a stimulant. It tends to make users feel more alert and awake, so your brain is probably adjusting to being without it. In time, if you can stay off speed, you should find that your sleep patterns settle down and the nightmares cease.

It will help if you can relax before going to bed. Try a nice warm bath, relaxing music or reading a book (it might be best to avoid Stephen King). Exercise is also a great way to improve your ability to sleep.

Lavender is often used in aromatherapy to help people relax and sleep. Or you might want to give massage or acupuncture a go, because they can both help you relax.

For more information and support in giving up speed, you can call Frank on 0800 776600.
