Community: The Social

Chat rules

Our chat service is there for you to enjoy, and to provide advice, entertainment and laughs for all our community members. However there's a few things to bear in mind when chatting away.

Remember the basics

As with our discussion boards, there are certain behaviours that aren't acceptable within the chatrooms. Don't be racist or discriminatory; don't attack other members; don't insult people. If you bear these in mind you should be alright.

There are also rules and guidelines unique to chat:

No flooding - no matter how funny something is don't post a million smilies one after the other. It's not big, it's not clever and the server doesn't like it.
Usernames - at the moment people don't have to register to use chat, however many people on our discussion boards have long established usernames. So try to avoid using someone else's name and if you suddenly realise everyone thinks you're some else, be prepared to log out and come back in again under a different name.

Guest chats

A number of chat sessions may involve experts or guests. In these session the conversation will be moderated. Post the questions or comments you'd like to see live, but be patient and wait for the moderator to let the comment through.

Themed chats

Chat sessions may also be themed around certain topics. This will be made clear beforehand and during the chat. If you don't want to talk about or read a discussion on that topic then be polite and head on over to the discussion boards - they'll talk about ANYTHING over there!

Excessively bad behaviour in the chat rooms, even if you're an angel on the boards, may result in a complete ban.

Expect a kicking

If you've decided to ignore the rules then you can expect the moderator of the chat room to take one or more of the following actions;

Warn you - just to let you know how special you are,
Freeze you - stopping you from posting,
Kick you - throw you out of the chat.

Chat stands alone

Chat is pretty different from discussion boards, and tends to be more temporary, if not downright fleeting. So don't expect us to permanently ban people just because they've been thrown out of a particular chat.

However...

Excessively bad behaviour in the chat rooms, even if you're an angel on the boards, may result in a complete ban from both the boards and future chat sessions.

Any problems

Just let a moderator know how you're feeling during a chat or contact us.
